About the Artists
Diane Pierce has used the medium of photography as her primary expressive tool. Themes for her work have most consistently included the exploration of still life, assemblage, collage, and drawing. She studied both painting, drawing, and photography as an undergraduate student at San Francisco State University and completed her graduate studies in photography at Mills College, Oakland, CA. Pierce has a thorough background in traditional and digital skills as well as alternative photographic processes that often integrate a variety of mediums. She has taught for over thirty years and served as the Photography Chair at De Anza College, Cupertino, CA. Her work is in the collections of SFMOMA, San Francisco; the MFA, Houston; and the Bibliotheque Nationale, Paris. Her recently published monograph Pencil, Paper, Scissors, Light (Datz Press) is sold out, but Diane has a very limited number of copies personally available for the determined collectors out there. She also has her Master of Science in Special Education. She has taught art at many institutions including Santa Clara University, the University of Utah, and Napa Valley College, created educational programs in both Marin County and San Francisco County, and notably she worked for 25 years as an Access Advisor for the Fine Arts Museums of San Francisco where she conducted workshops for teachers, facilitators and art lovers.
