Join photographers Barbara Ciurej and Lindsay Lochman as they present recent projects and reflect on the challenges and rewards of their four decade collaboration.

In their ongoing examination of how and what Americans consume, Ciurej and Lochman spin bite-size narratives into cautionary tales. They engage both humor and aversion in their depictions of iconic Western landscapes rendered with industrial food; climate disasters transformed into risk-laden desserts; or their documentation of the poetry hidden within recipe card boxes. They continue to be inspired by the curious and vexing contradictions of the domestic world.

Bio
Barbara Ciurej and Lindsay Lochman have collaborated on photographic projects for over four decades. They weave history, myth and popular culture into photographic narratives that critique the gendered and social landscapes in which they find themselves. Their practice incorporates staged and documentary photography, studio constructions, alternative processes and artists’ books.

Their work has been exhibited in the US and internationally. Collections holding their work include the Art Institute of Chicago, Milwaukee Art Museum, Museum of Contemporary Photography, Walker Art Center, and Worcester Art Museum. Their artists’ books are in the Yale Center for British Art, Beinecke Library, Museum of Fine Arts Houston, Joan Flasch Artists Book Collection, and Bainbridge Island Arts Museum, among others.

In addition to their shared photographic practice, they have been educators and guest lecturers at a number of institutions and are contributing editors to Lenscratch. They maintain studios in Milwaukee and Chicago.
