Santa Cruz resident Ted Orland has lived a many-faceted life in photography, filled with remarkable highlights. He was an assistant to Ansel Adams as well as an instructor at the Ansel Adams Yosemite Workshops for fifteen years. He taught full time at Stanford University, as well as the University of Oregon and various California Community colleges, and mentored young photographers, including the now renowned Sally Mann. In addition, Orland is co-author, along with his colleague David Bayles, of the internationally best-selling book on artistic practice, Art & Fear. He has also authored a companion volume, The View From the Studio Door, and Man & Yosemite, a history of nineteenth century photography told through the era’s photographs, which he is currently updating.
